Common Diseases
Cataract A cataract is when the lens in the eye becomes cloudy and affects your vision. Many patients have the opportunity to become cloudy due to aging
Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease that involves damage to the optic nerve (connecting the eye to the brain) and retinal nerve fibers (the light-sensitive nerve tissue at the bottom of the eye). There are two main types of glaucoma:

  • Chronic glaucoma: In the early stage of chronic glaucoma, there are no obvious symptoms. In the later stage of the disease, the peripheral vision of the patient may gradually shrink, leaving only the central vision.
  • Acute glaucoma: A sudden and sharp increase in intraocular pressure necessitates immediate medical attention. Doctors need to lower eye pressure as soon as possible to prevent permanent and irreversible damage to the optic nerve.
Macular degeneration Macular degeneration is a degenerative disease of the central retina, which causes the photoreceptor cells in the macula to be damaged and unable to function normally. The macula is located in the center of the retina and is also the place where the photoreceptor cells are densest, so it has an important impact on central vision.
Ptosis

Ptosis means drooping of the upper eyelid. Ptosis occurs when the muscles that raise the eyelid (levator and Müller's muscles) are not strong enough to do so properly. The possible causes include inborn abnormality, normal aging process, injury, neurological or eyelid diseases. Ptosis operation aims to lift the affected eyelid(s) to improve vision and/or appearance. It can also decrease the chance of amblyopia (lazy eye) in children.

Entropion

Entropion is the inward turning of the eyelid. Most of the cases are due to eyelid tissue involutionary change with age or chronic inflammation or infections like trachoma. A small number of cases are inborn.
 Pterygium

A pterygium is a benign wedge-shaped fibrovascular growth of the conjunctiva that can enlarge & extend onto the cornea. The exact cause of the disease is uncertain. It may be related to prolonged UV light exposure. There may be no symptoms in earlier cases. In more severe disease, one may experience redness, inflammation, foreign body sensation in the eyes and blurring of vision.
